Course description

The course took place in the autumn of 2019 in the form of personal attendance and in the autumn of 2020 in hybrid form.

Students joining the course online used the MS Teams interface. We recorded the material of the lectures so that as many of the students as possible could get involved in the professional work. Students completed the course by participating in joint discussions and submitting reflective essays. In the first part of the course, we became acquainted with the general characteristics of crises and then grouped them together. Following a historical overview, we discussed the events that most often triggered crises, and then the time dimension and dynamics of crises. The stages of the crisis state and the outcome of the crises were illustrated by examples. We learned about the communication features of crises and the aspects of crisis intervention. We talked about myths, misconceptions, and taboos about suicide. In the second part of the course, the topic of coping was examined. After the introduction to the history of psychology, we talked about the prevention mechanisms and their individual steps, and we talked about the different types of coping, as well as the possibilities of post-traumatic growth and development.
